Child Support

Child Support: Child Support is based on the income of the parties, with a recommendation made by the Friend of the Court based on Michigan’s Child Support Guideline Manual. In making a support determination, one key factor is the “net income” of the non-custodial parent. Such income includes wages earned from employment, including base pay, overtime, bonuses, cost of living allowances, annuities, and certain other income types. Other factors which could factor in a determination include child care expenses, and health care costs for the children. The Support Guidelines compute a total income of both spouses and then seek to assess a fair percentage of the costs to each party based on income.
